okay, fae thinks fae decided on gentoo sylveon_uwu

the first step of installing it will be swapping the hard drives between faer old framework laptop and faer thinkpad
sylveon_happy

(and well, connecting steam deck to the dock, so that fae could continue posting on fedi, haha)

okay, steam deck connected, and now dealing with screwdrivers kinda scares faer, but it's gonna be okay, meow~ sylveon_melt

this was relatively straightforward, following the guide on www.ifixit.com/Document/4PvDyjNQg5XysPfm/t14s_gen2_x13_gen2_hmm_en.pdf

sure, there were more screws, and they weren't magnetic, but overall the process of replacing the hard drive was simple, comparable to what it was on framework, had a bit of a struggle figuring out how to reinsert the base cover, but after a while fae managed to figure it out
sylveon_uwu

the hard drive is recognized, however no operating system is booting (probably because boot entries are stored in uefi)

well, gonna try installing gentoo then, meow~

thinking that livegui usb image should be fine for that purpose sylveon_uwu

no idea what the process of installing gentoo is, last time fae did it was like 16 years ago, haha

well, okay, to clarify what fae said previously, specifically it's the nvme screw wasn't magnetic (like it is on framework 13)

both devices had screws that stayed in for the screws for opening the device
sylveon_uwu

for that process, thinkpad x13 gen2 had 7 screws, framework 13 had 5 screws, but that doesn't matter all that much

oh, and company that fae got that used laptop from put a warranty sticker on one of the screws, but eh, fae doesn't care sylveon_uwu

the warranty they provided was like 3 months long anyways, so it already expired

it's kinda annoying to see the void letters that stayed on the laptop however, wondering if there is a way to remove those,,,

okay, fae managed to remove those letters by moving finger across those sylveon_uwu

okay, let's try putting the gentoo image on the usb
cp livegui-amd64-20260426T153103Z.iso /dev/sdc

,,, wait, that worked
sylveon_shocked,,, fae sees a led flashing on usb drive

fae didn't even need to use root to do that on steamos, huh???
