duck duck fedi: anyone have recommendations for good x86_64 2in1/tablets, under £250 ish second hand?

I think I’m probably after something like a Surface Pro or ThinkPad X1 Yoga, but there are so many generations and SKUs I’m not sure what’s good

would love to hear if anyone has recommendations!

considerations:

- rough budget of £200-250 ish, second hand in the UK
- needs to have a good display panel with good colour
- touchscreen w/ proper stylus support for arty things
- DCI-P3 / dolby vision type stuff is a bonus
- preferably 16GB RAM, and definitely if it’s soldered
- hopefully not completely explode on contact with (e.g Fedora) Linux, i’d like to dual boot (but not a deal breaker)

essentially, for reasons I find myself looking for a machine to run the popular name-brand photo editing software specifically on Windows, as well as just having a kickabout x86 thing I can hack with, and I don’t really a suitable portable machine to do either these days

(Wine/CrossOver/running VMs do not work for my use cases, and ‘just use gimp/affinity/krita’ doesn’t really solve my problem alas)

@eval i used the thinkpad x1 yoga gen4 with arch linux for a very good long while (until it got stolen 😔, then i got the gen6 (which has its ups and downs in comparison (e.g. bigger screen but smaller stylus))) and it served me really well. it was super reliable and the integrated pen was a pretty nice touch. i've heard the generations before 4 are nice too but i only have experience with the 4 and 6. really fantastic laptop though, highly recommend it :3

@paika @eval as a lenovo v15 g2 alc user (bastard cousin of the thinkbook 15), i'd say lenovo has good quality, i have used a lenovo 2 in 1 before, that was the grey body one with the atom cpu and it was bad but that was before lenovo got their shit together, that one still supported linux very well tho!
