i noticed my DSi XL making a quiet static hissing sound when the volume was all the way down. i was afraid there was something wrong with it, but apparently that's just completely normal and the fix is to drown it out by turning up the volume i guess? this is an official nintendo support article about it
A Nintendo support article saying that the buzzing sound I heard is a "normal feature" of the DSi and "a function of the way the system was designed".

@mjdxp i checked out of curiosity, and yeah, i experience a hissing sound on my dsi (non-xl) too :3

@mjdxp actually, i was wondering, why does dsi make that sound, do they like, permanently have the speaker turned on even when the system is completely muted?

and i think, the answer is yes, specifically so that the shutter sound would play even when muted while capturing photos

of course that's my guess, but it sounds reasonable to me
