@hsza @eri solar even with batteries cannot really handle a grid with jitter usage (probably incorrect terms lol) like coal/nuclear can, nuclear i think is good when its SMR situation in small regions :3

@illyBytes @eri @hsza other renewable sources of energy than solar exist. geothermal and hydro are the most reliable, but like any source of energy they all have their benefits and risks.
additionally, "batteries" don't have to be chemical batteries. potential and kinetic energy are alternative options and there are water reservoirs in use to store energy.
furthermore, you have it backwards. nuclear and coal
cannot catch up to transient power usage like many other sources can. they take upwards of a day to ramp up. nuclear is also incredibly expensive to both build and operate per kwh, and fuel is non-renewable. i also do wonder about the environmental implications of mining and refining the materials required for fuel as well, i have not seen much about that.
