@illyBytes

i don't like how vague this is

considering the general opinion on crypto, any project can harm their reputation

@illyBytes hm, well, i could see, that 'crypto projects' being soo broad it includes like idfk "AES" implementation; or something, which would be silly--, what other types of cryptocurrencies shit is there, besides shitcoins :?

@Li wallets for mainstream cryptocurrencies, monero stuff, mixers, alternative firmware for some crypto wallets that lets them be used as hardware secure storage, stuff like that

@illyBytes not to mention monero actually doesn't have transaction logs, which makes cryptos only good usecase, (i.e buying drugs and/or things the state declared 'bad'-) actually practical, and mixers and stuff play into that too- pretty much essential for user safety and such; i guess-

(.. i dont knnow, i think i have a more nuanced view on cryptocurrencies than i do on say AI. because atleast cryptocurrencies, can be used to buy drugs, and HRT-)

@Li @illyBytes cryptocurrencies are a way of doing capitalism in bypass of the state, it is still capitalism however so it sucks but at least it enables wider hrt access so might as well tolerate it

@illyBytes this one rembers being told by a mastocel in a discussion of this kinda thing that "oh its a different legal model, see in germany they act on the intention behind the legislation, not the precise words!!" but that makes no sense

for one thats cancerously neurotypicalese but also if everything is vague and up to interpretation by default then you can just interpret the rules however the fuck you want then do whatever the fuck you want

which is the same as not having any rules at all

@hsza @illyBytes its not the same as having no rules, no rules means you can do what you want, its the same as having someone just be able to just decide what your doing breaks some 'rule' that they just made up or whatever,

@Li @illyBytes well, basically no rules where their purpose is to keep power in check

anyone subject to that power then has "rules" that are more so unwritten whims... cant really be classified as proper rules

hence, no rules, just a hiearchy

@hsza @illyBytes judges interpret law in the US too

It’s generally a judicial function

Yes, judges sometimes make arbitrary nonsensical rulings

The neurotypical world is not okay

@hsza @illyBytes example: the US constitution clearly says in the 4th amendment search and seizure without a warrant is unconstitutional

But border patrol has been ruled to have the right to search your device if you are 100 miles from the border

They rarely do this unless you’re suspected of being here illegally, but it’s possible and fully allowed

The courts just… ruled it was fine… like 10 years back

@illyBytes @Elizafox yeah thats a big part of it, checks and balances matter not when they can all be trivially bypassed

but it is also inherent to power structures that have grown beyond the personal scale. theyre unable to properly represent the population, thus unstable, and eventually self-destructive

@hsza @illyBytes that’s the core of dialectical materialism and the whole thing behind Marx

The problem is that whilst empires crumble they don’t always get replaced with something better

See also: Imperial Rome, the American Revolution, the Russian Revolution (things didn’t really change much for the lower class farmers).

@Elizafox @illyBytes at some point society could draw the right conclusions from this and start working toward a coordinated transition away from having empires whatsoever

@hsza @illyBytes Germany has all sorts of awful laws too.

Beleidigung laws are on the books, it’s illegal to insult someone, cops use this against people constantly.

They also require you put an impressum on your website, with your real name, a physical mailing address, and contact details.

There is an entire cottage industry of lawyers who send legal demand letters over missing or defective impressums.

German law is fucked up too. :P

@illyBytes tbh the change is too vague to be interpreted properly

also like, how is hosting cryptocurrency projects in general harmful to codeberg's reputation?
