might be forking FreeBSD 13.0.0 for absolutely no reason other than to mess around with definitely pre-AI BSDs. Let's see where it goes I guess.
wait what the fuck it's actually doing something with brew llvm and lld under macOS with the python build scripts??? it has to fail so- oh yup, it failed, FUCK.
lets throw this into orbstack/docker instead i guess... why does everything have to fucking fail on macOS
i'll just throw it in an arm64 freebsd 13 vm later today when it isn't 4AM
yeah i know, forking freebsd 13 in freebsd 13, so meta, so bsd, so wow, so nerdnextdoor, so [insert funny doge dog like saying here]
turns out i need the fucking 3-4GB dvd image the disc image doesn't work because FreeBSD don't serve the other 13.0 txzs I need properly anymore and they're all on ftp-archive.freebsd.org I assume which I have no idea how to force the installer to use and I won't even try to do that fuck sake FreeBSD
if I had done this like 7-8 months earlier I would've been fine
so pkg is fucking useless, thank god i installed ports.
right, updated ports, ignored system support warnings, rebuilt pkg, pkg works now. installed git, needed compile libidn2 myself from ports, now we have git. holy shit, so FreeBSD 13 is still usable if you frankenstein it with newer ports.
cw: caps, very positive, FreeBSD 13 kernel build successful
THE ENTIRE FREEBSD 13 KERNEL JUST BUILT IN 282 SECONDS USING -J5 WHAT THE FUCK
hmm, the entire source in Git only takes 262 MiB. Shouldn't be bad if I ever upload to Codeberg.
and that's just the bare system unmodified.
@illyBytes hmm, good question. I don't actually know, the only AMD system I own is my Steam Deck...
@mrmasterkeyboard perfect, the steam deck is kinda close to my current system, both zen2 :3
@illyBytes ooh, that's good then. maybe at some point I'll figure out how to build a bootable CoffeeBSD image and see if it boots. I'd assume it works because Zen 2 was introduced before FreeBSD 13.0 released, which CoffeeBSD is based on.
