@illyBytes readline is GPL, anything non GPL cannot vendor a GPL library
There was even a dispute of Python technically breaking the readline license

@illyBytes oh and you can make an ABI compatible but non GPL licensed version of readline, yet the GPL still claims, unless you vendor it, it falls under the GPL, "because what if the user uses the GPL one"? Nooooo we def aren't doing an Oracle here, nooooo

@ity okay this is stupid cus like isnt GNU literally a UNIX-like, cant it be argued that they cant make it unix compatible because the license of unix stops it???

@illyBytes I think it's just that nobody tried to make that argument in court
Their argument has been tested in court 0 times, half the GPL is considered legally invalid by some legal experts, only the core of it (if you ship a GPL binary, provide relevant sources) has been proven in court

Random fun fact, I stumbled upon a LGPL license violation in a random Dell utility when REing it
They static compile glibc, which the LGPL then requires them to provide sources as they ship a copy of glibc*

*: well, kinda. It's clamplicated.
